5 Key Facts About Underground Seismic Sensor - SensoGuard

Unveiling the Invisible Guardian: 5 Key Facts About Underground Seismic Sensor

In today’s security landscape, property owners are constantly seeking innovative solutions to protect their assets. Underground seismic sensor have emerged as a cutting-edge technology that’s changing the game in property security. These hidden seismic sensors offer a level of protection that traditional above-ground measures struggle to match. In this article, we’ll explore five essential facts about underground seismic sensor that illuminate their power in modern security strategies.

5 Key Facts About Underground Seismic Sensors

  1. The Stealth Advantage – Underground seismic sensors operate beneath the surface, making them virtually invisible to potential intruders. This concealment provides property owners with a significant tactical edge.
  2. All-Weather Reliability – Unlike many above-ground security systems, SensoGuard seismic sensors are unaffected by harsh weather conditions. Their subterranean placement shields them from rain, snow, or extreme temperatures that might compromise other systems.
  3. Improved Accuracy – One of the most significant benefits of underground seismic sensor systems is their ability to differentiate between genuine threats and harmless disturbances.
  4. Early Detection Capabilities – Underground seismic sensors can detect intruders before they reach critical areas of your property, providing valuable response time for security personnel or law enforcement.
  5. Versatile Integration – These systems can be designed to work alongside existing security measures, creating a multi-layered defense system for comprehensive protection.

Pro Tip: Consider combining underground sensors with CCTV cameras for a robust security solution that reacts in real-time to potential threats.

The average citizen and business experiences over 120 minutes of electricity outage duration a year. This has a significant societal impact costing 10s to hundreds of billions of dollars annually. Furthermore, the measure of customer outage time—Systems Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI)—is on an upward trend as a result of aging infrastructure and other factors.

Recognizing the need to improve electric distribution system reliability, and the associated benefit to the United States, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has a stated goal to achieve a 20 percent reduction in SAIDI by . The DOE is working with industry, national labs, universities and other groups to research, develop and demonstrate commercially viable solutions to modernize the grid and deliver the true measurable benefits of the Smart Grid.

Though many grid assets are still above ground, many electric utilities are moving a large percentage of their distribution grid underground to improve reliability and environmental aesthetics. In more recently developed areas, grid undergrounding is increasingly common with some utilities having over 65 percent of their circuit miles below ground. For example, California-based San Diego Gas and Electric have 70 percent of their circuit miles below ground.

With the benefits of undergrounding also come challenges. Manually troubleshooting below-ground circuits is extremely costly due to traffic obstructions, confined environments, and dangerous conditions such as flooded manholes. North American electric utilities want and need monitoring of these underground assets, but to date, Smart Grid communications technologies, such as underground distribution sensors, have not been available to reliably service these assets.
