Overall, the unit performed as expected while I worked on several wrought iron patio benches. The advantages of this machine include its affordability, lightweight design, and functionality. However, there are a few drawbacks. The amperage control knob and display seem mostly decorative, as indicated by various measurements shared on YouTube, which show the actual output to be around half of what is displayed. Initially, I faced challenges with the 2.4 mm rods when trying to strike an arc, requiring me to set the machine to its maximum in order to operate effectively. The arc issues may have also stemmed from an inadequate ground connection, which is a common issue; many experienced users recommend removing any paint or contaminants from the metal to achieve a proper ground. Given that I don’t plan on welding frequently, I find this unit to be a suitable choice despite its inconsistencies. Is it a suitable beginner's unit? Absolutely. Just remember to purchase a welding helmet, as mine did not include even a basic hand-held mask.
